Los Angeles based Writer/Producer Astral22 delivers a solid first ever various
artist compilation release titled “Astral22
Presents…IMPERIAL”. IMPERIAL
features a quality line-up
of hand picked emerging and established independent soul talent. This spirited soulful "smooth", “feel good” production showcases Astral22’s collaborations & re-works. The focus here is on the music,
lyrical content, and this producer’s signature blend of Classic /Nu Soul; Jazz,
Funk and Blues. Expect an assortment of jazzy melodic lush mid-tempo grooves,
sophisticated funky up tempo bubblers, and the bluesy slow jams with which this
producer is gaining prominence.
Why the title?
The
title “Imperial”
is reconceptualized here as it relates to the self owned state of empowerment each of us possesses. The message and music here speaks of “what is unique and
beautiful” about the “individual”. Astral22’s inspiration and enthusiasm for the genre and
artists represented here comes to fruition in this homage to the
burgeoning Global Independent Soul Movement.
Notes and Musings from Writer/Producer Astral22 on the release of “Imperial”
All of the artists on this CD are “stars” to me in their own right. I
bubble over with inspiration and enthusiasm as I listen to their work,
& realized that everyone represented here are all ”doing it
themselves” – financing, orchestrating and exercising creative
sovereignty over their own careers, as “free agents”. I always
wondered why the “Major Labels” never snatched them up, - so one bright
day I decided to do it myself!
What is unique about the artist producer relationship is the push
and pull. I really enjoyed “letting go” on this project, and affording
the artists a lot of creative control, lyrically, and with vocal
melodies and arrangements. Of course I made suggestions, but I wanted
them to feel out of the box on this record, sometimes more so than on
their own releases. Musically I draw all of my inspiration from above,
and my personal channeling sessions consistently blend Classic and Nu
Soul, Jazz, Funk and World Rhythms.
I really respect the tremendous effort and commitment everyone
involved put into working together to create this beautiful music. I
nurtured personal relationships with each and every artist, and they
became like a musical family, and my own personal “Billboard Top 20”.
Their music inspires me, and it was a pleasure to see how the marriage
of my musical energy and their creativity brought each song together in
a unique way.
Writing and producing material for so many artists simultaneously
fully exercised my extreme focus, patience, and multitasking to the
umpteenth power. My music, dreams, inspiration, vision, conversations,
ended up traveling sometimes as far as 8000 kilometers away, to over 10
states in the USA, & all the way to the UK, Argentina and beyond.
